Have you considered having a water-smart garden? One of the hardest things about having a garden is making sure that it has enough water. This is true for food gardens and people who love elaborate flower gardens. However, as weather patterns have shifted, more of the US has been dealing with drought conditions. While some parts of the country have always had to deal with water conservation, it is now becoming crucial that everyone learn how to manage water. Even areas that used to be rich with water are dealing with dry spells ruining crops and making it difficult for some plants to survive. For this reason, it is important that many of us learn how to grow drought-resistant plants and learn better ways to collect water.
With water-smart gardening becoming even more crucial, I was excited when I had an opportunity to read a complimentary copy of a soon-to-be-released gardening book – The Water-Smart Garden: Techniques and Strategies for Conserving, Capturing, and Efficiently Using Water in Today’s Climate and Tomorrow by Noelle Johnson. Once my book arrived, I couldn’t wait to share my thoughts with everyone!

Our Thoughts
As someone with only some knowledge of water conservation, I have to say The Water-Smart Garden blew me away. It was filled with beautiful diagrams and pictures and jam-packed with information ranging from plants, gorgeous pictures, tools I had never considered, and realistic ideas to allow anyone to garden. I loved that the author was very realistic with her ideas and happy to walk people through the new reality of growing their food with little water available. My favorite part of the book, however, is the projects. Unlike most books that just spend a couple of pages, each project has its own devoted chapter, making sure you have everything you need to properly grow and conserve water. Overall, I consider The Water-Smart Garden a must for any gardener, no matter their grow zone!
