Are you someone who has considered preserving to save money? Like many families, my husband and I are constantly looking for ways to cut costs, especially with everything going up due to inflation. While we do a lot of natural cooking, it feels like I cannot keep up with costs, and I refuse to buy lower-quality items, mostly made with salts and unhealthy carbohydrates. As I researched different ways to save money on food, I asked to review a complimentary book that seemed perfect for my household – Preserving with a Purpose: Next-Generation Canning Recipes and Kitchen Wisdom by Sarah Thrush. Once our copy arrived, I couldn’t wait to share our thoughts with everyone!

Our Thoughts
So far, I have to say I’m very impressed with this modern canning book. Most books on canning I have found are primarily reprints of older books or repeat information from these books, including recipes. While they are considered classics for a reason, they sometimes aren’t the best for a more modern, busy lifestyle. I found Preserving with a Purpose: Next-Generation Canning Recipes and Kitchen Wisdom to be very practical, realistic, and perfect for the modern busy lifestyle, especially for someone who knows nothing about canning.
Most of us start researching canning to save money and time, especially if we have a home garden. All the recipes in Preserving with a Purpose: Next-Generation Canning Recipes and Kitchen Wisdom are recipes that I found to be realistic and things that almost every household will eat. Not things from the past that are unhealthy and unrealistic. They even focus on making stapled canned goods used regularly in pressure cooker or slow cooker recipes, including making your cream of mushroom soup! Overall, I consider this book a must-have for anyone serious about saving money and stocking up on healthy meals for their pantry.
