Are you someone who loves hot cocoa? Once the weather starts getting colder outside, I can’t wait to start making hot holiday drinks. While some people may only think of hot cocoa as a holiday drink, I have enjoyed it throughout the year. It isn’t uncommon for my husband to make me a hot chocolate drink on very stressful days, knowing it is one of my favorite things to enjoy after a busy day. Once snow starts falling, we enjoy making it from packets or scratch.
While I love hot chocolate, I have been surprised recently by the number of bakeries making hot cocoa inspired desserts. While I wasn’t sure about it at first, I found that it was actually a pretty fun trend, especially after I tried some delicious hot cocoa desserts and breakfast items at various restaurants. One of the things that has been on my mind, though, is wondering if hot cocoa scones would be a good choice, especially since I love chocolate chip scones.
As a big fan of chocolate, especially during the holidays, I knew I had to experiment and try a new scone recipe. Using one of our favorite hot cocoa powdered mixes as a base, we created what we think may be the best chocolate scones. They are the perfect mix of chocolatey flavor, and when mixed with marshmallows, they create the perfect experience, creating the perfect hot chocolate dessert! Best of all, they are amazing right out of the oven. We rarely eat these without any icing or clotted cream since they are just that flavorful, making these hot cocoa scones a perfect gift!
What I love the most about this recipe is that it is easy to make, especially if you need a holiday dessert in a hurry. No one will know that in 45 minutes or less, you created the perfect holiday dessert or potluck item. The only issue with the dessert is that I can never make enough since they are gone almost immediately after they hit the table!
