As some of you know, there are some things that are very dear to my heart. One of the things is helping non-profits that work toward ending cancer. As someone who lost a dear friend to cancer as a child, it is a cause that is very dear to my heart and I love helping when I can. Of course, one of my favorites is The Cure Starts Now. Every year, they do a fun charity with Graeter’s ice cream – Cones for the Cure – and have a special flavor available at most Graeter’s locations – Elena’s Blueberry Pie ice cream. This year, Graeter’s and The Cure Starts Now are trying to raise $100,000 to help the cause and, of course, giveaway free ice cream!
About The Cure Starts Now and Elena’s Blueberry Pie Ice Cream
Started in 2007 in tribute to a 6-year-old girl named Elena Desserich, The Cure Starts Now Foundation has revolutionized cancer research worldwide with its focus on a homerun cure for all cancers. The Cure Starts Now has funded over $6.7 million in groundbreaking pediatric brain cancer research. With 26 chapters in 3 countries, The Cure Starts Now is making a difference in the fight against cancer. The Cure Starts Now has also been recognized by The Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, People Magazine, Inside Edition and media worldwide for the inspiration it offers to all who fight cancer.
Elena’s Blueberry Pie Ice Cream was named after Elena as part of a wish donated by Graeter’s to The Cure Starts Now’s annual Once in a Lifetime Gala & Auction. The Groteke family won the wish and invented the flavor in 2008. Elena’s heart painting is the inspiration for the pint design. A portion of the proceeds from every scoop benefits The Cure Starts Now.

I like it when companies do promotions for a good cause. “Blueberry pie” is a popular flavor variety right now. Even Oreo cookies have caught on! It is so heartwarming that this ice cream company is raising awareness to combat children’s cancer. I just wish we lived near one!

I wish they had a Graeters location near me, but they don’t, I love ice cream and certainly would support this worthy cause..

Too bad we don’t live close enough to participate in this program. It is always reassuring to see communities get behind campaigns like this. As much as our family likes ice cream, we could really get behind their fund raising efforts.
