Ingredients for scones:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon allspice

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, very cold and cut into chunks

1/2 cup strong-brewed chai tea

1/4 cup whole milk

1/3 cup sliced almonds, plus extra for topping

Ingredients for glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons chai tea

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves to a large mixing bowl and whisk to combine.
  4. Add the cold butter chunks to the mixing bowl and mix with your hands, ensuring the butter is thoroughly worked into the dry ingredients and the entire mixture is moistened.
  5. Pour the ½ cup of chai tea and whole milk into the mixing bowl. Mix with your hands, working from the bottom up, until fully combined.
  6. Turn the dough out onto the prepared baking sheet and form it into a thick disk shape.
  7. Cut the dough disk carefully into 6 equal triangles using a sharp knife that has been dipped in flour.
  8. Bake the scones for 16 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  9. Remove the scones from the oven and allow them to rest on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes before separating them.
  10. Add the powdered sugar and two tablespoons of chai tea to a small mixing bowl and stir until smooth.
  11. Drizzle the glaze over the scones and top with extra sliced almonds.
  12. Store any leftover scones in an airtight container for up to three days.
