Do you love almond scones with a good cup of chai tea? If I had to pick my favorite dessert food appropriate for breakfast, it would have to be scones. They are the perfect mix of sweets that complement a wonderful cup of coffee or a flavorful cup of tea. I especially love having a not overly sweet almond scone with a good cup of chai tea. My biggest issue with scones is that they seem very hard to find in most bakeries, especially ones that aren’t overly sweet desserts. It is one of those foods I know I always have to make at home, making me excited when I can find a flavorful recipe slightly different from your traditional fruit scone.
One of the things I had seen recently while traveling was a small bakery that sold chai tea scones for the holiday. It wasn’t something I typically considered a Christmas food, but it was tradition at this small bakery. While it was sweeter than I typically like, it gave me some ideas to try at home. I thought it would be fun to make something less traditional than your typical almond scones and mix it with the flavors you find in authentic chai tea. To me, the trick was trying to figure out how to combine a traditional almond scone with the delightful flavor of allspice, clove, and cinnamon without completely overpowering it.
After some experimentation, my family and I came up with what we thought was the perfect almond scone recipe. This chai almond scone recipe is the perfect mix of chai tea while still keeping the traditional flavor of a classic almond scone. Best of all, the recipe is very easy to prepare on short notice, making it perfect for a busy weekend or unexpected guests you want to impress. The trick is just making sure you have very cold butter (I sometimes even throw butter in the freezer to prepare scone recipes like this one).
