Have you ever considered having your homestead or being a homesteader? While I’m unsure if we will ever be self-sufficient, my husband and I have considered having our small homestead, mainly in the form of having chickens, a garden, and maybe our little farm to sustain our small family. That being said, we have no clue how things will go when we get there, but we are the sort of people who do lots of research before jumping into anything. It is one of the reasons I love reading about homesteading online, especially homesteader bloggers. Recently, I had the opportunity to review a new book that seemed perfect for our situation – The First-Time Homesteader: A Complete Beginner’s Guide to Starting and Loving Your New Homestead by Jessica Sowards.

The First Time Homesteaders: Our Thoughts
Honestly, I thought this was a very down to Earth homesteading book. It is straightforward to read, has great pictures, and goes into a little bit of detail about everything you need to know about Homesteading. It is also reasonably practical, telling people where to start so they don’t become too overwhelmed. While it may not give you everything you need for jumping it, it gives you a realistic idea about getting started and what you need to raise your own poultry, grow a garden, beekeeping, and more. While it is a bit basic for anyone who has already started, it is perfect for people like my husband and me who are unsure if we even want to have our hobby farm or just a small property. Overall, I think The First-Time Homesteader: A Complete Beginner’s Guide to Starting and Loving Your New Homestead is an excellent book for anyone considering homesteading.
