With big dogs, the biggest problem is that training and just fun treat time can very quickly get expensive. Quality treats seem to always come in small bags, meaning that we either have to be sparing with them for cost reasons (breaking up treats) or work on making our own. This is something that happens quite often for us, especially with Ivi’s turkey allergy. While we have had amazing recipes for dry treats, it isn’t so easy for frozen treats.
While our girls aren’t lactose intolerant like many dogs, the calories add up if you give ice cream treats. Not that they don’t love it, but keeping our girls at a healthy weight is just as important. This is why I have been trying to find a healthy and flavorful recipe for frozen dog treats. Recently, I have been looking at recipes that mainly focus on fruit. Since Rylie adores bananas, this seemed like a great way to find a healthy, reasonably low-calorie treat for them to eat after playtime outdoors. With Kentucky fall temperatures in the 80s, they need a fun treat to help them cool off!
Below, we have what we considered one of the easiest and tastiest recipes for frozen dog treats. Not only is it super fast to make, but they are ready for your pup to eat in under 3 hours! With all three ingredients, it is also a very cost-effective option for dog owners. The most expensive part of the recipe is the actual silicone mold. Ingredients
- 1 Over-Ripe Peeled Banana
- 1 cup Plain Yogurt
- 1/4 cup Flaxseed Meal
- Silicone Mold
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a blender on high speed. Make sure everything is mixed thoroughly.
- Take your preferred mold and carefully fill each of the mold cavities. To avoid a possible mess, we recommend placing the mold on a cookie sheet.
- Place the mold and cookie sheet in the freezer. Allow to freeze for at least 3 hours (longer for larger molds).
- Carefully remove treats from the mold. Place all treats in an air tight, freezer safe container.
- Store in freezer.
