How to Kill Fruit Flies with the DynaTrap FlyLight

June 1, 2023 by Susan Bewley

Are you trying to figure out how to kill fruit flies in your kitchen or other places in your home? I will be the first to admit I despise all types of flies. Not only are they annoying, but carry all sorts of pathogens in their bodies. Oh, and that doesn’t even take into account their nasty habits when they land on food (I won’t get into that in case you are eating).

That being said, I avoid pesticides when at all possible to avoid indoor pollutants or accidental poisoning. I have read too many horror stories of people ending up in the emergency room or a curious pet dying due to eating something that came in contact with pesticides. Of course, my favorite way to kill fruit flies is using natural methods such as carnivorous plants, but my pitcher plant and sundews can only do so much.  After years of trial and error trying to find the perfect solution, I am to share with you my secret weapon against fruit flies and other flying announces in the kitchen – the FlyLight by DynaTrap!

How to Kill Fruit Flies with the FlyLight: What is It

Looking for an innovative, safe way to keep your home free of flies? If so, we think you will love the  FlyLight by DynaTrap. This unit works by attracting flies with the AtraktaGlo™ UV technology and then trapping them with their StickyTech™ paper to stop flies in their tracks. Best of all, it is completely safe, silent, and simple by protecting the indoors without using pesticides, or odors (completely odor free), and is silent (no zapping or buzzing). You just put the unit in an electrical outlet to work, allowing you to sit back and focus on what is truly important – cooking and your family! Who knew keeping your kitchen safe from bugs could be so easy?

How to Kill Fruit Flies with the FlyLight: Our Thoughts

Our Original Thoughts on Review

As someone who cannot stand bugs in the house, I was pretty excited to test out the FlyLight by DynaTrap. With our front door not being far from my kitchen, I loved the idea of having something that would trap flies and keep them away from the food. All you have to do is plug the unit into a wall, and enjoy the results as it attracts and traps bugs on the sticky paper. It really is that simple. Best of all, it is completely safe for the girls since it is impossible for them to reach the sticky paper. With two curious dogs in the house, having something that can trap bugs and is safe for my entire family is a major win for this dog mom.

After Years of Using the FlyLight to KIll Fruit Flies

After nearly five years of using the Dynatrap FlyLight, I honestly couldn’t imagine not having it in my household. Not only is our original review unit still running, but we have three more in our household. I use the FlyLight to kill fruit flies and other small flying insects in the kitchen, plant room, and bathrooms (attraction to dog food and water). I have found the sheets work over the recommended three months, keeping their stickiness for close to six months. The worst thing I can say is that the blue light can sometimes be a bit annoying at night if you use them close by a bedroom since they can easily double as a night light. You can also find off-brand sticky sheets on Amazon that are half the official cost and in large packs, making it a very cost-efficient way to kill fruit flies in your home.

I wish I had this over Memorial Day weekend. We had family over and had a cookout. Of course everyone was in and out all day. The next day we were totally overrun with flies. I have grandchildren visiting and I definitely didn’t want to use a spray to get rid of the flies (not good for grandma, either). So we gave the kids fly swatters and spent the last several days trying to kill flies. I am definitely going to try the DynaTrap–this should make life easier and more enjoyable.

Useful gadget that zaps all the pesky mosquitoes and flies! This could really come in handy, my back yard is full of bushes and lots of nasty intruding bugs

I have never seen one of these before. This would be perfect for those that have a lot of traffic in and out of their house!

Although this year I haven’t seen to many mosquitoes I have been bit several times by mysteries flies and bugs. We often get mosquitoes though in the past because we live near lots of bushes and trees.

We live in the Deep South and it can be difficult to have a BBQ cookout because of the mosquitoes & flies. It would be nice to have this to give us some relief from those annoying critters.

I have not heard of FlyLight by DynaTrap before this. I really dislike when flies are in my home. My cat gets really nervous!

I love Dynatrap products this one would definitely be appreciated if I won. I don’t like using chemicals in our backyard because I own 4 dogs and I worry what these chemicals could do do to their health. Anything that can help keep the bugs away that won’t jeopardize theirs or our health I all for.

I wish I had one of these in the garage. It would really come in handy. My fur baby hides under my bed for hours if a flying insect of any kind gets in the house. He is not afraid of them outside but god forbid there should be a fly in the house!

This sounds and looks like a great product. I just hate flies and when they get in the house it drives me crazy. I just love how easy it is to use. Just plug it in and forget about it….

I can’t stand having bugs in my home especially flying ones! This would really be helpful & I can retire my fly swatter. Do you think it would also attract & trap stink bugs? Now that would be a blessing!

the product seems like a good idea. I hate flies and all other bugs , if it works it would be great

This seems like a really great product. My daughter likes to chase flies around with the swatter, but I imagine this would be more effective!

This looks like a great alternative to having sticky fly traps hanging around. I had no idea there was such a product. This would be great to place near our kitchen to keep the flies away from food.

I detest flies. I think this would work. I found out a cool thing about flies last year- they are phottropic meaning light draws them. No like moths, but it does work.

A couple of months ago, I noticed a lot of little fruit flies in my kids’ room. I found a banana peel under their bed when we were cleaning. It seems like I just can’t get rid of them. Sigh. This would be so nice!

We have annoying fruit fries right now. If this would get rid of them that would be fantastic! I wonder if it works on mosquitoes too. I love the idea of not having to use pesticides.

We keep our trash near out entry way on the side of our house and the flies are such a nuisance. This would be so perfect for the warmer months.

The pole lamp next to the computer desk seems to attract insects. Many times I will smell something burning and see smoke spiraling up from it. Not really something I like. We have dogs that go in and out all day. Invariably, flies and other bugs will follow them in. Even mosquitoes make it in and will attack us while we are watching TV or using the computer. This sounds like it will be a good solution.

I’m not going to start my comment on this with what I’d usually say, like “This would make a nice gag gift”, or “what a nice housewarming addition”. No, my family loves in Texas, and this baby is an absolute necessity. You never know what flies near you, and is coming from who knows where. It’s nice to have piece of mind when you just want to eat or relax in peace.

We fruit flies in the house. I hate it. I wash the fresh produce as we bring it in. This light , would it work on those too?

I LOVE this contraption! It’s safe and is chemical free! The bugs ? on the other hand are a different story! I’m like you, I can’t stand bugs! They are annoying! I actually ate a fly once and a bee ? stung me in my mouth!! I really don’t like when I am trying to sleep and they are buzzing around my head!
I see no use for them! Thank you for sharing!
