Do you have a dog that suffers from anxiety? As dog owners, we know that our dogs have certain things that make them nervous and outright scared. For our Reya, nothing is scarier than being left alone in a place where she can’t easily see her mom or dad, or hearing thunderstorms. She is fine when she is at our feet, but the moment we leave the room, she is nervous, and will cry until she finds us. We are even more nervous with firework season coming soon, especially since we have new neighbors who last year had fireworks going up until November since it was so warm. To say the least, she was nervous and hated hearing all the other dogs in the neighborhood be nervous too. Before summer is even here, we want to try helping her adjust and have more fun outdoors by helping her with her anxiety without having to drug her or keep her crated. Luckily, we just recently found out the perfect solution – The Rein Coat Pet Harness.
Rein Coat Pet Harness: What is It?
Looking for a way to help your pet feel less fearful and anxious without the use of medications ? If so, we think you will love the Rein Coat Pet Harness. Unlike similar products on the market, this coat is designed to be comfortable and functional without losing range of movement, so that you dogs can naturally ‘rein’ themselves when they are feeling anxious or scared. This patent pending coat and harness combination replicate naturally occurring behavior between your pet and their mother, trigging the production of oxytocin (love or ‘cuddling’ hormone) , which helps reduce fear and anxiety. Similar products work by distracting pets and making them less comfortable to distract them from what is causing their anxiety. Instead of constraining your pet, the Rein Coat Pet Harness is designed to be loose, comfortable, and is custom fitted to fit all types of dogs and cats.
Currently, the Rein Coat Pet Harness is available in two styles – Classic and UltraLight. The classical coat is made using three layer tricot polyester fleece, which is perfect for dogs to wear indoors or in cooler climates. As well, the coat has a wind resistant face. For dogs that live in warmer climates or have thicker coats, you may want the UltraLight instead, which is made of Ripstop, an extremely light but strong fabric. Both of these coats feature the Rein Coat’s signature royal blue color with an ultra-soft black interior lining, and are hand crafted and trimmed on topside and underside with black polypropylene webbing giving in a finished, super cute look. As well, the harness is designed to be completely customizable, featuring lightweight military grade buckles and 800 pound break strength straps. It doesn’t matter if you have a small 5 lb dog or 250 pound giant breed, the Rein Coat Pet Harness can help any dog feel safe and secure!
Rein Coat Pet Harness: Overall
As you can guess, we were pretty excited to try out this coat on Reya. Since she is an Alaskan Malamute and we are going into summer, we chose to review the UltaLight variety of the Rein Coat Pet Harness. To say the least, I was blown away by the Rein Coat Pet Harness and how much it has helped our dog. It was super easy to put on Reya and she didn’t mind putting it on at all. Honestly, I’m having more problems getting it off of her since she seems to love it. Every time I try getting it off she runs around the house or goes to her favorite spot and flops in rebellion. Not only does she feel comfortable, but clearly more confident. She normally hates all vacuums and will run for the hills the moment I start vacuuming. With the Rein Coat, she confidentially came over to it, sniffed, and realized it wasn’t her enemy. She just laid down and watched me finish rather than be afraid. Not only does the coat look snazzy on it, but I love the built in, heavy duty harness that makes walks even easier. Really, I can’t say enough good things about this Rein Coat and am planning on bringing it with us during any trips this summer. Based on my own experience, I am happy to give the Rein Coat Pet Harness an A+ rating and recommend to every dog or cat owner!

Ah, my Steffy really doesn’t like any kind of dog clothes 🙂
She is always quite happy to just be with us when there are fireworks or some loud bangs somewhere etc. When she was little she used to crawl under the bed but not any more 🙂 So far so good
Charlene says
I find it so interesting that just by wrapping your dog or cat in a tight coat or vest it helps control their anxiety.
Susan Bewley says
It is mostly where the weight is on the neck. The neck area is a bit heavier and snug, giving the feeling like her mama was holding her as a puppy. Similar to how cat carry around their kittens. The hormone that when this happens alleviates stress in both cats and dogs. 🙂

I think this is a great idea for our pets. I can understand how it would calm them down. Thank you so much for sharing this company

My doggie needs this

I was pretty skeptical after reading this. Then after seeing Charlene’s comment and your reply, I’m more curious now if it’ll really work.

I’ve used Thunder shirts for a couple of my dogs who have issues with thunder, fireworks, etc. with some luck. I was lucky enough to win a Rein coat a while back and I love it for the dog I got it for. I especially like that it has a secure harness built in so not only is it calming on my dog, but it gives me a way to make sure she won’t bolt if she gets spooked.
Aliyah says
Such a great Idea…my dogs wouldn’t fit in that though. they’re huge!
Susan Bewley says
These fit any dogs. Reya is 81 lbs and they have ones for giant breeds as well (up to 250 lbs)
Angela A Simmons says
oh my goodness what a cute dog how precious is that. I love this idea by the way. Thanks for the review 😉
Sandy Weinstein says
similar to the thunder shirt. there are several variations of this type of coat now. i have read that if you take an old t-shirt and wrap it very tight around your dog, that it does the same thing, it gives them a sense of security. take a small or baby t depending on the size of your dog and use it. some of the jackets are very pricey. this one is nicer looking that most i have seen though. this one does not fit snug like the other jackets i have seen.
Susan Bewley says
Yup – most of the tight ones focus on compression and distraction, rather than putting pressure on the right place. 🙂

I love these harnesses. I can’t imagine how a pup could feel when they are anxious. It must be awful because they can’t communicate it to us. Thank goodness for this harness.
Alina says
I like that it produces the same relaxing hormone as if he/she were being protected by their mother. This is amazing! My dog doesn’t get anxious or stressed, but I know someone that can use this. I will have to let them know.
lisa says
It’s kind of like swaddling a newborn baby. It gives them a sense of security.
Lisa Coomer Queen says
This is just too cute! I will have to pass this along to my husband.
Sean says
Love that they’ve created something that helps them with their anxiety but doesn’t restrict them from normal activities.
Elizabeth Sunderland says
This is similar to putting a dog in a cage (when you leave) that suffers from anxiety. An anxious dog left alone in the great big world will cause havoc.
Susan Bewley says
Hi Elizabeth,
This isn’t the case at all! The Rein Coat is more like a loose fighting jacket with a bit more weight around the neck – more like the weight of heavy coat on us – not something that hurts or restricts the dog at all. My dog actually loves the coat and it makes her very VERY confident. We actually have a bit of a fight getting it off since she prefers wearing it.
Like everything, there is proper training. These coats are meant to help a dog who is properly trained but anxious about certain situations, such as thunder, the vacuum, being alone, or just anxiety form new situations, especially with rescue dogs.
Kennel training, a completely different matter, is actually good for dogs, when trained properly. They are NOT somewhere to place your dog when they are bad, but a place of comfort. Our dog prefers her kennel for sleeping and will open her crate door when she wants to be alone. Again, people who don’t properly train their dogs are the issue, causing unneeded anxiety by using it as a prison.
lisa says
It seems like animals, both dogs and cats are afraid of the vacuum cleaner. I wonder if it’s because they hear it differently than we do.
lisa says
I could have used one of these for my cat. He was so timid that he’d hide when the phone rang or we had company. We got him as an adult so I’m sure how he was treated at a young age.
Nan J. says
If this works, I’ve known some dogs that really need it! I would love to have a good cat harness that fits my kitty.
Jaime B says
This looks amazing. I have a dog that is scared of everything; storms and fireworks cause him to shake uncontrollably. I can’t afford to buy one of these for him but I’ll keep it in mind if the day comes that I have a little extra cash.

WOW! Thanks so very much for the Fantastic Review of Rein Coat Pet Harness Review: Helping Pets be Stress & Anxiety Free! This sounds like it really has worked with your Reya! I have one that has separation anxiety. When we leave the house, even for a short period of time, when we get home she cries and jumps all over us and this goes on for a good 5 minutes! The other one seems to bark at everything! She barks whenever we have a thunderstorm, if there are fireworks set off, if there are dogs on the TV barking, Loud noises, etc. I don’t know why she barks, I don’t know if this scares her or she just likes to bark! They both get nervous and shake whenever we take them in the car. They do eventually settle down, but in the beginning it seems like they are going to have a heart attack or something! I wonder if this Rein Coat Pet Harness will work on my dogs for all of that? It sounds like a fantastic item and I would so much love to have my girls calmer as well! Oh yes, I forgot, the one runs away from our vacuum as well! Thanks so much for sharing the Fantastic Review, the pictures, and all the personal and professional information on Rein Coat Pet Harness Review: Helping Pets be Stress & Anxiety Free with all of us! I for one truly do appreciate it! Thanks so very much! Michele 🙂

I have heard of these harnesses before and seen them on TV. Our dog gets nervous sometimes and shakes. He also has seizures at times and this would help him.
