As some of you know from previous posts, I have tried to lose weight many times in the past. Multiple times a year, I get up and decide it’s the time to start trying to lose weight. I mean, I give myself the best pep talk ever, tell my husband I’m ready to do it, and am a burst of energy. Since I’m still overweight, I guess I wasn’t too successful, huh? Usually I’m motivated by friends around me or family to do more. I mean, how can you not be motivated seeing someone you know lose over 100 pounds?
It isn’t like trying to lose weight is bad, don’t get me wrong. When you tell yourself you’re trying, it :
- Tells loved one you are trying to control your weight.
- Tells yourself you can do something about it.
- Tells yourself that you need to take ownership for the problem.
- Tells friends and family you are trying to do something about it.
But, as Master Yoda said to Luke, “TRY is the language of FAILURE.”
“There is no TRY. Only DO, or NOT DO.”
Ouch. That doesn’t seem too positive does it? Well, it is only the honest, hard to accept truth. I have learned some hard truth trying to lose weight in the past.
- Weight loss programs truly suck. They don’t work in the long term, they aren’t fun, are aren’t designed for people like me who really want to lose weight. I’m sorry, but I don’t have the time to have fanatical devotion to a weight loss program. I’m a busy woman here, and it feels like its hard enough finding time to exercise.
- They are too low calorie. Basic science, if you have a calorie deficit, you will lose weight. With too low of a calorie diet, you will see quick weight loss and then mess up your body, leading to extreme re-gain and extra pounds added on when you give up on the diet. To say nothing of the damage you can do to yourself if you don’t get the nutrition you need…
- As someone who loves science, I know walking in that they are only based on partial-science. I let them put the wool over my eyes because I want something that works. I jump on the bandwagon, like all my other friends, and hope something works, even if it logically shouldn’t. In the end, weight loss is tricky since it isn’t just calories, but also depends on your own genetic makeup and metabolism. Also, no one really wants the honest truth that there are still genetic functions we don’t understand when it comes to weight loss and weight gain. If you sit down and read some of the studies, it’s a bit frustrating.
- Weight loss companies don’t WANT you to lose weight – they want repeat customers. End of the day, they are a business. Think about it, every business wants you to be a repeat customer. It’s a basic model that has been around for centuries. They are setting us up to fail. End of the day, weight loss programs are an exercise in frustration. They promise the world but really don’t want you to succeed. Personally, I want to get this damn weight off and keep my money, how about you? I want an Undiet, not a Regain diet!
I saw this short video about “How Diets Really Cause Weight Gain.” Check it out here. It made a lot of sense. The video is not an ad. Just good, simple science.
Really, I may have found a diet that may work for ounce – the #CoreUndiet. They even offer free samples! If it doesn’t work, at least I know you and me aren’t going to lose any money, you know?
So, what I have I decided to do in 2015? I’m not going to try to lose weight, I’m just going to DO IT! Yup, good old fashion Nike style slogan! I am going to find what works best for me and kiss this excess weight goodbye!

I hope it works for you. I have read good & bad things about this diet.

Deborah, out of curiosity, what you heard? I rarely promote programs like this but I love that it is something to jump start people on a healthy lifestyle. I am really curious about it.

I agree, the bottom line is that weight loss companies are trying to make money. Thank you for sharing this post, I found it very interesting.

You are very welcome! I am a no go for companies that just want to take my money and run. I rarely promote companies like this because I think they are a joke, in all honesty. I love that CORE program is designed to kick start you on healthy eating and a better lifestyle. I don’t think its for everyone but great for people who have no clue where to start!

Maintaining a health weight is important for good health. It is best to practice moderation and control to do so.

I have tried so many diets for so many years YUP my weight was up and down non stop Then thyroid meds were off for years so I gained. Now that my meds are the right dose I am loosing. I have been eating right and exercising and since my meds have been put right almost a year now and I have lost 30 pounds…. and I know I will be loosing alot more I wish to loose at least another 30 pounds. I know many who know me would say OMG why so much I need to feel good for me inside and out So dieting NO eating right and exercising and drinking water is the right way

I 100% agree! I have kicked butt with eating right, exercising, and drinking water! The program I am helping promote more jump-starts people into a healthy lifestyle. It isn’t a replacement for good healthy, clean eating. 😀

Eat whatever the hel you want as long asyou keep it under say 1500 calories a day a/ a 1/2 hour of excerise. I did that twice and last about 40 lbs. But then of course 2 times I got tired of dieting and I love eating crap 🙂

I agree that using the word try implies that you have doubts. If you do, you are more likely to fail. Just do it. You don’t need to tell people, they often sabotage your efforts. I’m not sure if it’s intentional or not.I also think that you can eat whatever you want. Just in moderation.
