Do you love iced coffee? With the summer heat finally here, we can enjoy some of our favorite cold treats. For many friends and family, this is enjoying smoothies, shakes, and sometimes cold beers. While they enjoy their traditional summer drinks, I go for one of my all-time favorites – iced coffee.
Many years ago, while traveling, I fell in love with iced coffee. Having an unexpected business trip, my husband and I were on our way to New Jersey, where we stopped on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for much-needed caffeine. For those who have never traveled this toll-way, there are various ‘rest areas’ containing fast food, bathrooms, and my favorite – Starbucks. These 24-hour Starbucks are an absolute lifesaver when traveling at 1 am. Ice coffee was introduced here since it was a current ‘special’ of the day. I fell in love with it almost instantly.
While my husband is firmly a hot coffee drinker, I now look forward to iced coffee in the summer months. To make things even better, many restaurants are now experimenting with various iced coffee recipes. I have found that some of the mom-and-pop coffee shops have some of the best varieties, not being scared to play with various syrups and fruits in their unique coffees.
For me, the biggest issue with drinking iced coffee (or any coffee outside my home) is the price. I don’t know how anyone can afford coffee out, especially Starbucks. While it is a very nice treat, it isn’t sustainable for those who try living within a budget. I would honestly rather spend the money on high-quality coffee from a local coffee roaster than pay $8+ for a large specialty coffee.
To me, the best part of making coffee at home isn’t just the price but having it anytime, anywhere. It means that if I’m playing Diablo 4 at 1 am with my husband, I can make a quick coffee with our Mr. Coffee espresso maker. It also means I can add my own creamers and even experiment with different types of milk (I love Almond and oat milk sometimes in my iced coffee). Really, when you make specialty coffee at home, your choices are endless, and with control of your ingredients, you can also make it healthier!
Of course, you don’t have to always figure it out yourself at home. Many fantastic sites have experimented with various recipes and combinations for us, creating amazing iced coffee recipes. To me, the coolest part is some sites have created copycat recipes of various recipes from various coffee shops (including Starbucks). Knowing the exact measurements takes the guesswork out of making coffee, especially if you try to make fancier iced coffees.
Knowing that you love to experiment with various recipes like us, I am excited to share 10 of the best iced coffee recipes with you. These recipes are tested and work with just about any coffee maker. Some even have the conversions for doing it with your Keurig, making life even easier! Who knew it was so easy to make yummy iced coffee at home and save money!?
